Institute of Computing
Studies
The
Institute of Computing Studies was founded when Mabalacat City College was
founded. It was first named College of Information Technology
Education (CITE) in 2007. The first Dean was Mr. John Paul B.
Pallasigue. During the incumbency of Prof. Grace Fabros-Tyler as Dean, the Institute was renamed as Institute of Computing Studies (ICS) to attune it with the cloud computing times. The current Dean is Dean George M. Granados.
The
Institute has produced two (2) outstanding I.T. Students of Region
III awarded by the Philippine Society of Information Technology
Educators in Region III. The Institute has also produced a number of winners in
national and international paper presentation competitions.
ICS
yielded its first graduates of only three (3) students in March 2012.
In 2013 ICS also yielded its first batch of 74 Associate in Computer
Technology graduates. As of now, the Institute graduated 327 BSIT and
231 ACT.
Institute of Teacher
Education
The
Institute of Teacher Education, together with the ICS, is a pioneer
Institute of the City College. It was founded in 2007 and opened its doors
to first batch of students in June 2008 at Northville in Atlu Bola.
The First Dean was Dr. Marieta Pelayo and the present Dean is Dr.
Rowena O. Macapagal.
The
Institute has produced more than 250 passers of Licensure
Examinations for Teachers (LET) and many of its alumni are now
working in different public and private schools in Pampanga and
Tarlac.
The
Institute has produced the first Summa Cum Laude of the City College in
2013. The Institute also produced two (2) of the Ten Outstanding
Students of the Philippines Region III in 2013 and 2015. As of now,
ITE graduated 576 graduates.
Institute of
Hospitality Management
Looking
at the original intention of the Sangguniang Bayan in 2007 was to
establish a College of Business (COB) with Bachelor of Science in
Business Administration (BSBA) and Bachelor of Science in Hotel and
Restaurant Management as its program offerings. But Commission on
Higher Education Region III (CHED ROIII) suggested that BSHRM should
be under a separate College, and thus, the College of Hotel and
Restauarnt Management was born. Its first Dean was a long-time
manager of Jollibee Food Corporations, Ms. Josephine V. Los Banes.
The current Dean is Ms. Diana Varona. The Institute is the home of
beautiful and handsome people. It produced title holders in Mr. and
Ms. Association of Local Colleges and Universities (ALCU). The
institute also produced a candidate of Mutya ng Pilipinas.
In
2012, the Institute was renamed Institute of Hospitality Management
(IHM) for it also offers Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management.
As
of now, the Institute had graduated 273 BSHRM and 58 BSTM.
Institute of Arts and
Sciences
As
early as 2009, Mabalacat City College envisions of becoming a
University. An important requirement to becoming a University is
the offering of a four-year program in liberal arts, four-year
program in social sciences and a four-year program in basic sciences
and mathematics.
Evaluating
the faculty strength, the best program to be offered that time was
Bachelor of Arts in History and Bachelor of Science in Biology.
Thus,
on November 18, 2010, the Board of Trustees, through Resolution 39
series of 2010, established the Institute of Arts and Sciences. The
Institute is envisioned to spearhead the quality delivery of general
education in preparation for the transformation of the City College into a
University.
The
first Dean is Atty. Robert John I. Donesa and the present Dean is
Dean Dino Fabriccio P. Arenillo.
Institute
of Business Education
The
Institute of Business Education is the youngest of all the Institutes having been established in 2012. When the College opened the Institute,
many of the probable business programs were under CHED moratorium – that
is to say, CHED ROIII will not grant permit to operate business programs because they were oversubscribed. Fortunately, the Bachelor of Science in Customs
Administration (BSCA) which is an important program for Mabalacat
City, it being near the Clarkfield, Pampanga is not under moratorium.
Thus, BSCA was the first program offered under the Institute. There
was an initial positive response from the students as the first batch
of enrollees were three sections. The first graduates are with us
now.
Though
young, the institute already made a mark in the national, regional
and local quiz competitions relative to customs, tariff and other
commercial and taxation laws. The Institute is also the over-all
champion in 2015 College Days.
The
Dean of the Institute is Dean Reynaldo Laxamana.
